I am slightly confused but that is normal for me.
The name of the bootcode file contains the letters PAL. Is this in reference to the type of video output or something else? In other words for people in the U.S. is there a bootcode that says NTSC in the name? Thanks for clearing this up. |

EDIT: Correction; it does stand for PAL as indicated below by wigout but it's irrelevant since the firmware takes over after boot up and set the proper standard as selected in the video menu. Last edited by snappy46; 08-05-2010 at 04:12 PM. |

Snappy & all-
In the ellion/conceptronic gpl material on the bootcode, the examples include PAL & NTSC labelled bootcodes, so I think this time it does mean whatever PAL means in tv-lingo. What it seems to indicate, however, is that the initial splash screen is in PAL (or NTSC as the case may be). So no biggie for us ntsc'ers. -wigout

Thanks for the info wigout and for setting me up straight
. By the way which initial splash screen are you talking about ???? The Box Office logo is definitely in ntsc .... well I think since my screen does not seem to be black and white (Hard to tell since it's white writing on a black screen) and rolling around; or would I just see that on the composite video O/P not the HDMI.Cheers! |

Snappy-
I have always understood that the pbo defaults to PAL- that's why the initial logo/startup and firmware update screens are only visible over composite cable for me. I can "see" the logo scrolling around- but that's a consequence of trying to watch a PAL signal on a NTSC display. I think this is a little less clear if you have a tv which natively displays both PAL and NTSC- and apparently a lot of not name brand tv's are. There's two last tv-encoding notes, both related: One it's part of the environment/env settings at boot time: param_addr=10000 tv_system=PAL usb_otg=off otg_gpio=0 12V5V_GPIO=44,hion POWERKEY_IRRP=0xE51AB649 POWERKEY_GPIO=78 Two, those system parameters get reflected in the /sys/realtek_boards/ /sys/realtek_boards/tv_encoding_system which cat /sys/realtek_boards/tv_encoding_system yields: 0 (PAL) This "fixes" itself once your smartish hdmi connection straightens out the pbo about what signal you'd like; in my case NTSC. Of course I could be wrong about all of that. Just doing some guessing and reading between the lines. -wigout

Thanks for your inputs and the great job you are doing here. EDIT: You are correct about the PAL logo wigout; I just confirmed it by pressing the info button on my LG TV while the PBO is booting up. On the BOX OFFICE logo it indicates a signal of 576i which is the standard for PAL; after bootup my TV indicates 1080P. As you mentioned thru the magic of HDMI this is not noticeable on my TV Screen. Thanks; today is a good day because I learned something. Last edited by snappy46; 08-05-2010 at 04:13 PM. |
